the scientific examination and analysis of data held on, or
retrieved from, computer storage media in such a way that the
information can be used as evidence in a court of law. The processes
include:
- Secure collection and preservation of electronically stored information (ESI) and metadata verified by use of MD5 and/or SHA-1 cryptographic hashing algorithms
- Recovery of hidden, deleted and encrypted files or file fragments and artifacts from active partitions, file slack, formatted media and unallocated space
- Restoration of damaged media and devices (mechanical, software or firmware failure) in a forensically sound and defensible manner
- Utilize data culling and keyword, single- and multi-term (and pattern) search techniques where necessary as a means of minimizing the data pool to produce responsively and in a succinct manner
- Examination of email and headers to document each routing point from origin to final destination
- Documentation of Instant Messaging and Internet browsing activities, including sites visited and search terms used
- Identification of data leakage or transfers of proprietary information to removable media or web-based email accounts
- Thorough analysis of subject data to determine facts, timelines and present written opinions
- Presentation of technical findings derived from complex computer based records in terms that are understandable by even the least-technical party in the litigation process
- Full forensic investigative support throughout the judicial lifecycle, from pleadings to discovery, depositions and courtroom testimony
